Less than a month to go until January’s transfer market, giving an injured Liverpool a chance to get stronger.
Jurgen Klopp’s team has been plagued by a number of fitness issues over the past three months, with long-term injuries to Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez that have pushed the team’s depth on defense to its limits.
It could force the Reds to look to get stronger in January as they look to keep fighting in both the Champions League and the Premier League.
Here are the latest odds for players linked to a move to Anfield next month.
Conor Coady – 4/1
The Wolves central defender has enjoyed an excellent 18 months, earning him a call-up for Gareth Southgate’s England team in August.
Coady went through the youth system on the Reds, but made only one appearance in the senior year before moving to Huddersfield Town in 2014.
The 27-year-old turned down Jamie Carragher’s playful suggestion of a Liverpool comeback in October following Virgil van Dijk’s injury, but that hasn’t prevented talk of a move in January.
Also in the running are Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur at 1/16, with Man City at 1/20.
Those kinds of odds suggest that bookies are confident that if Coady leaves the Wolves, it will be for Anfield.
Ben White – July 2
The Reds first linked up with the Brighton White defender in the summer after his excellent form when he was on loan at Leeds United last season.

Leeds were eager to sign the 23-year-old permanently, but he eventually stayed with the Seagulls and signed a new contract.
Brighton has a £ 40 million asking price for the central defender, but his age and performances in the Premier League so far show a player with a lot of potential to play at the highest level.
With the Reds disabled list, it is not surprising to see that White is considered by bookmakers as one of the favorites to move to Anfield in January, especially with second favorites Leeds and Manchester United out at 25. /1.
Man City is classified at 33/1 to sign him in January.
James Tarkowski – 6/1
A cheaper option for White and Coady could be Burnley’s Tarkowski.
The 27-year-old is said to want to leave Turf Moor after turning down contract offers last season and over the summer.
With 18 months remaining on his current contract, time is running out for Burnley to receive a hefty fee for his services.
He was heavily linked with West Ham and Leicester City over the summer and the Hammers are now 5/1 favorites to sign him, with Everton at 12/1.
If the Reds are looking for affordable central defenders, Tarkowski would be a good fit, and he might prove a decent stopgap until the players are back in shape.
Tyrone Mings – 6/1
Another center-back on the list, priced the same as Tarkowski, is Aston Villa’s Mings.
Since moving to Villa from Bournemouth in 2019, Mings has made a number of impressive performances in the Premier League and was a key part of Dean Smith’s team avoiding relegation last season.
Mings is apparently settled in Villa and there hasn’t been much talk of him leaving, with Manchester United at 25/1 the only other club to be listed in the betting for him.
With his current contract running through 2024, Villa is in a strong bargaining position and can demonstrate that there is better value elsewhere in the defensive market.
Jadon Sancho – 1/9
The Reds are second favorites to sign Sancho behind Manchester United, who failed in their high-profile search for the England star in the summer.
He won’t be stingy and the prospect of Borussia Dortmund selling in January is remote, but by his own admission, he hasn’t started this season in his best form.
Could that tempt Dortmund to listen to offers? The Reds’ 9/1 price tag possibly reflects that, along with the fact that Sancho is said to be open to the prospect of moving to Anfield.
Kylian Mbappé – 1/9
It’s the rumor that seemingly never goes away: Could PSG star Mbappé move to the Reds?
Liverpool are the second favorite to sign him after Real Madrid, who are at 7/1.
There’s a lot of speculation about Mbappé’s future, and the 21-year-old’s current contract at PSG only runs until 2022.
Real Madrid is said to be the favorite, but there are still questions about whether it could pay off the winner of the World Cup in France.
That could leave Liverpool in a strong position to sign him. Although it seems unlikely that this will happen in January, PSG have yet to secure the passage of their Champions League group and a surprising early exit may increase the chances of Mbappe’s departure.
His teammate Neymar has recently spoken out about his desire to meet Messi in Paris and even a wealthy club like PSG would have a hard time affording such strikers, especially with current FFP rules.
Also in the bets for Mbappé are Barcelona with 12/1 and Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Man City all with 25/1.
Dele Alli – 1/12
Alli’s future at Tottenham Hotspur looks uncertain, having struggled to get fit and have fallen into the hierarchical order of José Mourinho.
Spurs turned down the opportunity to lend it to PSG in the summer and were said to be in favor of a permanent deal.
The French champions are still the favorite to sign him at 4/1, with Manchester United at 8/1.
However, Liverpool is given a 12/1 price to move around Alli. He’s the type of player who could play well with Jurgen Klopp and add something different to the Reds’ midfield, but is he an area that really needs to get stronger in January?
Real Madrid also have 12/1 to sign Alli, with Everton, Leeds United and Southampton all 25/1 and Newcastle United 28/1.
Such a wide range of clubs that are included in the betting suggests that bookmakers are not entirely sure what the future holds for the 24-year-old.
Phil Jones – 1/16
By far the strangest link on this list is Manchester United defender Phil Jones.
The 28-year-old has not played since scoring in a 6-1 FA Cup win over Tranmere Rovers in January.
He was injured before last season’s restart in June and has been on the sidelines ever since, losing the 25-man Premier League squad to the Red Devils.
There is pressure for Liverpool to move for a defender in January, but one for Jones, who has struggled to stay in shape when he has played in recent seasons, seems remote.
However, bookmakers have still set a price of 1/16 for a January trade to Anfield.
Elsewhere, Derby County is the favorite to sign him at 5/2, with Burnley and Everton both qualifying at 6/1.
Middlesbrough and Newcastle are 8/1 to sign Jones in January.
