13 new COVID-19 cases in Singapore, including 1 in the community and 1 holder of a business travel pass

SINGAPORE: Singapore reported 13 new COVID-19 cases as of noon on Saturday (December 5), including one in the community that had previously been quarantined.

Twelve cases were imported infections, of which 11 were placed on a stay-at-home or isolated notice upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MINSA) said in its preliminary daily update.

The remaining case is a Singaporean who traveled to Indonesia with the Business Travel Pass. He underwent a COVID-19 polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test upon returning to Singapore on November 28 and isolated himself while awaiting the test result.

The test came back negative on November 29, but she developed symptoms on December 2 and was confirmed to have a COVID-19 infection on December 4, the Health Ministry said.

More details will be available later on Saturday, the ministry added.

SUSPENDED RESTAURANT, SHOPPING CENTER UNDER INVESTIGATION

Under COVID-19 security measures, social gatherings of groups of more than five outside of an individual’s residence are prohibited.

Food and drink establishments are also prohibited from accepting group reservations of more than five, even if those groups are divided into multiple tables. It is also forbidden to mix between groups.

Meanwhile, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said investigations into the large crowds observed outside Orchard Gateway on Friday night were ongoing.

Photos that circulated online showed a massive crowd of people outside the Foot Locker store in the mall, as well as police vehicles.

STB said Foot Locker stores have “received repeated advisories about crowd management, but continue to hold events that draw large crowds.”

As of Saturday, Singapore has reported a total of 58,855 COVID-19 cases.
