The director of a funeral home was indicted yesterday in court for her alleged role in the death of her ex-boyfriend in May, during the breaker period.

Alverna Cher Sheue Pin, 38, was charged with one count of manslaughter that does not amount to murder.

According to court documents, Cher is charged with an act that caused the death of 32-year-old Wee Jun Xiang between 1:44 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on May 16 in Deck 4B of a multi-story parking lot at Block 145A Bedok Reservoir. Road.

Police said Wednesday they arrested Cher after being alerted to a case of unnatural death in the parking lot around 5:30 p.m. on May 16.

The police prosecutor objected to his requests because investigations were still ongoing, and the judge said the investigating officer will help notify his family and make the necessary arrangements.

Local Chinese media reported that the victim, Mr. Wee, also known as Sean, was a songwriter and had released a song in Mandarin titled “You Left” two months before his death.

He wrote the song after his grandmother died of liver cancer in 2017.

Cher has appeared on various platforms giving interviews about her career as an entrepreneur.

FUNERAL BUSINESS

Four years after the divorce, Cher said she was in a relationship with the father of her second child, whom she dated for seven years.

But he was sentenced to prison shortly after she gave birth to her second daughter, leaving her to run her funeral business. She said she then went out of business and established City Funeral Singapore in 2015.

Cher was also among the three finalists for the Exemplary Young Mother Award in 2018, organized by Jamiyah Singapore to recognize young mothers who display outstanding traits in the face of adversity.

She will be in custody for a week and is expected to return to court next Thursday.

If convicted, she could face life in prison or be imprisoned for up to 20 years and fined.
