SINGAPORE – There were no train services on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) on Friday (December 4) morning due to a signaling failure.
Rail operator SMRT said on its Twitter page at 5.43am that there were no services available on the line and that “free buses and bridge buses are provided at these stations.”
Services at the three stations normally begin at 5.40 am every day.
In an update at 7.23 a.m. M., SMRT said that train services between Woodlands North and Woodlands South stations remained inactive and that bus shuttle services remained available.
“We apologize for the delay in your trip,” added SMRT.
Along with Woodlands Station, all three stations are on TEL stage one, which has been open since January 31.
In September, Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung said that the completion of the six stations in the second stage of TEL will be delayed by three months to the first quarter of 2021 due to the impact of Covid-19.
Initially, they were scheduled to open in late 2020.
Since July 30, services between Woodlands North and Woodlands South stations have had early closings and late openings, so SMRT “continues to test integrated systems and trains in preparation for the opening of stage two” of the line.
Early closings and late openings were scheduled to end on August 30, but have since been extended to December 31.
