SINGAPORE – A taxi driver who ran over a student at a zebra crossing in 2017, leaving her with traumatic brain injuries, was sentenced Tuesday to three months in jail and banned from driving for two years.
Cabby Eu Hock Leng, 64, had pleaded guilty to one count of reckless act.

The victim was hospitalized for 15 days, suffered concussions and brain fractures, and lost his sense of smell.
He had to undergo intensive rehabilitation treatment, which included physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.
A medical report dated August 2, 2018, showed that you could still be vulnerable to potential long-term health risks resulting from your injuries, despite recovering from complications from your acute traumatic brain injury.
She had difficulty multitasking and was also slightly impaired in terms of planning, understanding and remembering what she heard, as well as her number problem-solving skills, according to the report.
“The victim experienced a tremendous sense of loss and other negative emotions as a result of the accident because she felt very disabled due to her dependence on her family during her recovery,” court documents said.
She still suffers from back pain when sitting on the floor and is emotionally affected when reminded of the incident.
For causing serious harm by reckless act, Eu could have been imprisoned for up to four years and fined up to $ 10,000. He could also have been disqualified from driving for life.
