Nepalese man visiting his family in Singapore is the only case of the Covid-19 community, Singapore News & Top Stories

SINGAPORE – There was a locally transmitted Covid-19 case reported by the Ministry of Health (MOH) on Monday (Nov 30).

The patient is a 35-year-old Nepalese man in Singapore on a short-term visitation pass. He was allowed into the country to visit his family members who are Singaporean.

He is asymptomatic and his infection was detected when he underwent a Covid-19 test prior to departure on November 28 prior to a trip to the United States.

He arrived in Singapore from Nepal on November 1 and was placed on a 14-day stay-at-home notice (SHN), until November 15.

He tested negative for Covid-19 on November 11 while under the SHN, and subsequently stayed at a friend’s apartment on Bishan Street 22. He visited his family on Yishun Avenue 6, the Health Ministry said in a press release. Monday night

He was rushed to the hospital when his test came back positive Sunday. The Health Ministry said his serological test result was also positive, indicating a probable past infection.

The Health Ministry said epidemiological investigations are in progress and all identified close contacts have been isolated and quarantined. Tests will be conducted at the beginning and end of their quarantine periods.

On Monday night, the Ministry also reported four imported cases of Covid-19.

They included a Singaporean and three work permit holders.

The Singaporean is a 31-year-old man who returned from Japan. Two of the work permit holders came from Indonesia and the third from India.

All four were placed at SHN in specialized facilities upon arrival. All were asymptomatic when tested.

The Health Ministry added several locations in the city center, Orchard Road and Geylang to the list of places visited by Covid-19 patients while they were still infected.

These include Geylang Bahru Market and Food Center, ION Orchard and Sque Rotisserie, and Alehouse at The Central Mall on Clarke Quay.

These visits occurred between November 16 and 27.

The Ministry of Health provides the list of places that patients infected with Covid-19 visited for at least 30 minutes and the hours they visited, so that people who were in those places at the same time closely monitor their health for two weeks.

Close contacts would have already been notified and it is not necessary to avoid these places as they would have been cleaned up if necessary.

There were no cases inside the dormitories of foreign workers for the 20th consecutive day.

With 10 cases discharged on Monday, 58,119 patients have recovered from the disease.

There are 29 patients still in the hospital, none in intensive care, while 26 are recovering in community facilities.

Singapore has had 29 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.
