SINGAPORE – The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has launched a tender for the installation of 600 electric vehicle (EV) charging points.

It is believed to be the first time that LTA has called for bids.

In a Facebook post on Monday (November 30), the authority said that the 600 charging points will be installed in “more than 200 public parking lots” across the island.

Selected bidders will need to complete implementation by 2022, the LTA added.

“This marks an important first step towards our goal of implementing 28,000 charging points of this type over the next 10 years to accelerate the adoption of cleaner energy vehicles,” the authority said.

The most ambitious electric vehicle charging point installation project yet is that of solar energy company Sunseap Group, which announced in September that it aims to install 10,000 charging points here by 2030.

Following up on his own Facebook post, Transportation Minister Ong Ye Kung said that with the EV Early Adoption Incentive tax rebates and the recently amended Vehicle Emissions Scheme, “we hope that more drivers will be encouraged to use electricity. “.

Mr Ong said: “We will not stop here. Technology is evolving and we will continue to review our strategy. I am fairly confident that the plans will grow in ambition.”
