Mikel Arteta has admitted that he feels the pressure as Arsenal manager amid mounting questions about his future at the club.
The Spaniard replaced the fired Unai Emery exactly one year ago. But the problems that plagued its predecessor are still very apparent as Arsenal lost 2-1 at home to Wolves.
The Gunners are now 14th, having scored just 13 points in their first 10 games. They are already well off the pace of European venues and many observers predict a long and tough season.
Although he admits he is feeling pressure to return Arsenal to their former glories, Arteta insists he is not afraid of firing.
However, he admits that changes of direction in football are common and accepts that he will not stay in command forever.
“It’s something that the day I decided to be a coach, I know that one day I will be fired or I will leave the football club” Arteta said.
“I don’t know if it is the day after I sign my contact, in a month, a year or six months. I never worry about it.
“My only concern is getting the best out of the players, giving the best possible service to the club and getting better and better.
“I know, I repeat, in this profession, one day they will fire me or I will leave but I don’t know when that will happen.”
When asked how he felt after the home loss to the Wolves, Arteta admitted that his current form is a concern.
“It’s when you lose three games in a row for different reasons at home. I’m really worried, I’m responsible for that. “
Reflecting on Sunday’s defeat and after identifying the reasons for the lossHe said: “A really bad result. The performance, in the first half we had our moments, they made two shots on goal and scored twice.
“We had a great reaction in the second half, we did everything we could. I think the team showed how much they wanted to win the game.
“We created opportunities, we created chances and the goal did not come. Obviously disappointed because I think we deserved more from the game.
“It’s (a concern) when you lose three games in a row for different reasons at home.
“Obviously I’m very worried, I’m responsible for that, but I owe the reaction the team had, the way we played the second half.
“I expect more quality and more skill from them, but in the end, the desire and the will to go and get a result were there.”
Arteta on David Luiz’s injury
Sunday’s game was marred by a nasty confrontation between David Luiz and Raúl Jiménez.
The duo collided while competing for a corner, and the Wolves forward appeared to come off worse.
Luiz was able to continue until halftime, but Jiménez was removed on a stretcher and immediately sent to the hospital.
Initially asked about the head clash, Arteta insisted his team followed the necessary protocols after David Luiz was given the green light to continue before being substituted at halftime.
Arteta said Sky sports: “David [Luiz] it’s okay. He has an ugly cut and was conscious. I had a test and was completely fine. We were very worried about Raúl Jiménez because he was very unpleasant.
“When you see the reaction of the players you know something really bad is happening.
