But when former local celebrity Sharon Au shared her ideas passionately at work, she was “reprimanded for it.” That was what led her to make the decision to “dramatically” resign from Mediacorp in 2018.
On the latest episode of the meWATCH Hear U Out talk show, the 45-year-old recounted the day she quit the broadcasting company without first landing a new job.
This was after he completed his studies abroad and fulfilled his bond with the company in the business arena.
She said: “I forgot about myself in a meeting and started to share my ideas with enthusiasm and was scolded for it. Maybe I was feeling too vulnerable back then. I remember crying after the meeting while closing my laptop and packing.
“We were supposed to go back to work after the meeting, but I don’t know why, I just walked away and couldn’t stop, and ended up going home and crying on the way back. I didn’t know what I was doing. I got home. , I turned on my laptop and wrote my resignation letter. “
Sharon did not elaborate on the meeting, including its purpose or who was present, but the last positions she held before her departure were as editor of Elle Singapore and leader of styleXstyle.com. In 2018, both Sharon and Mediacorp issued statements announcing their resignation.
When contacted by AsiaOne regarding Sharon’s comments, a Mediacorp spokesperson said they could not “comment on Sharon Au’s personal decision.”
[[nid:464571]]After her resignation, she moved to Paris because she wanted to start over, but no one would hire her. She was out of work for three months and even considered being a waitress at the Italian restaurant near her apartment.
Later, a former Mediacorp president invited her to dinner when he was in Paris on business. Sharon said that he had seen their projects and was impressed by them.
She added, “While we were eating, he asked me how work was, and I told him I didn’t have a job and couldn’t find one. I was so surprised to find out that because to him, I was someone very capable and talented, who admired “.
A phone call later, Sharon landed a job at a private equity firm and has worked her way up to becoming an investment director with clients under her care.
“Life is about connections. You have to hold on to the connections you make and it helps to have a benefactor,” said Sharon.
