SINGAPORE: A woman who sued PUB for S $ 5 million after falling into an open sewer and sustaining multiple physical and psychological injuries accepted a confidential settlement offer and will withdraw her claim.

This occurred on the fourth day of the trial, and Ms. Chan Hui Peng’s lawyers accepted the offer on Thursday night (November 26).

Ms. Chan had made the claim for S $ 5 million, adjusted from an original figure of S $ 20 million, for an incident five years ago in Kovan.

He had fallen about 2 meters into an open culvert on a pedestrian path at the intersection of Simon Road and Upper Serangoon Road on a sunny morning on December 1, 2015.

He fractured his ankle, suffered multiple bruises, and suffers from persistent ailments, such as the inability to run, impaired gait, and lower back pain. He also cited psychiatric injuries such as anxiety, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorder, major depressive disorder, and schizophrenia.

She sued for damages including pain and suffering from her injuries, cost of future medical expenses, loss of opportunity to have a child, potential costs of a caregiver, and loss of ability to generate future income and earnings.

Her acceptance of the confidential offer, which was made by PUB attorneys Anparasan Kamachi, Grace Tan Hui Ying and Shanen Nanoo Siva Das of WhiteFern LLC, came after Anparasan accused her of tampering with her claim by orchestrating evidence of mental illness. and other complaints.

This was followed by Ms. Tan who led her through extensive documented psychiatric notes from Tan Tock Seng Hospital from April 2016 to December 2016.

Ms. Tan argued that there was no PTSD diagnosis and that Ms. Chan had tried to influence the medical reports by asking the psychologist to amend her reports. The latter refused.

Hours after the cross-examination ended, Ms. Chan’s attorneys, Mr. Letchamanan Devadason, and Mr. Ivan Lee Tze Chuen of Legal Standard accepted the offer to settle on behalf of their client.

The terms of the offer to settle, which was made on November 10, are confidential, Tan told CNA.

The parties will appear before the trial judge today (Friday, November 27) to address the issue of costs. Following this, Ms. Chan will file a suspension notice against PUB, withdrawing her claim.
