SINGAPORE – A teacher who committed indecent acts against two 15-year-old girls in separate incidents was sentenced Thursday (November 26) to four years in prison.
The Singaporean offender, now 33, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of indecent act on a minor and one count of sexually penetrating a minor. All three charges involved a girl he targeted in 2017.
Three other charges were considered during the sentencing, including those involving another girl in 2015.
The man left the Ministry of Education in September 2018 amid a police investigation.
While details about the man and the school cannot be released due to a gag order, it was said in court that the second victim suffered psychologically due to his actions.
“The defendant’s actions made her feel like she couldn’t trust the people she had just met. He felt that he should not go to school to avoid the accused.
“He was scared when he saw people waiting on the empty deck and at times he had flashbacks of the incident,” Assistant District Attorney James Chew said in earlier proceedings.
The incident occurred on February 25, 2017. The teacher had sent him a text message asking if he wanted to meet him for a ride in his car.
She agreed and he told her not to tell anyone about her departure.
After picking her up, he parked the vehicle near Block 374 Tampines Street 34 and proceeded to touch her inappropriately.
When the girl thwarted his advances, he took her home.
He then blocked it on the various apps they had used to communicate with each other before telling his close friends about the incident two days later.
The girl, who attended the same school he taught, stopped attending classes shortly after, prompting school staff to visit her home on March 2 of that year.
That same day a police report was made.
His exploitation of girls began in 2015, when he showed the first victim a video of a woman performing a sexual act. Later that year, he touched her inappropriately.
The former teacher’s bail was set at $ 15,000 Thursday. He will be delivered on November 30 to begin serving his sentence.
For sexually penetrating a minor, an offender can be imprisoned for up to 10 years and fined.
