POSSIBLE DEVELOPMENT OF VACCINES IN DECEMBER IN USA, UK

The United States expects to begin a comprehensive COVID-19 vaccination program in early December with approval from the Food and Drug Administration, the head of the government’s coronavirus vaccination effort, Moncef Slaoui, said Sunday.

Reportedly, FDA vaccine advisers will meet Dec. 10 to discuss approval of vaccines that pharmaceutical firms Pfizer and Moderna say are at least 95 percent effective.

Britain could also give regulatory approval to Pfizer-BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine this week, even before the United States authorizes it, news site Telegraph reported.

Citing government sources, he said British regulators were about to begin a formal evaluation of the vaccine and that the National Health Service had been told to be ready to administer it before December 1.

G20 leaders said Sunday they will “spare no effort” to ensure the fair distribution of coronavirus vaccines around the world and to support poor countries whose economies have been devastated by the crisis.

The new coronavirus has killed at least 1.3 million people and infected more than 58 million since the outbreak emerged in China last December.
