A police officer who was caught on camera smoking on an empty terrace and throwing his butt on the ground was suspended from all duties and received a warning letter, security firm Certis said.

Videos of the incident that occurred at Woodlands Avenue 6 on Saturday (November 21) were posted on Facebook, which several readers alerted Stomp to.

In one video, a man in a polo shirt can be seen smoking while sitting on the empty deck. Later he throws the cigarette butt on the grass and lifts the mask.

The person recording the video can be heard saying, “Sitting under the empty platform and smoking … and littering.”

The man is then seen taking off his polo shirt and folding it into his bag, thus revealing his Certis outfit.

Another video shows the same Certis officer in a dispute with two delivery men after he had apparently jotted down their details for parking at the loading dock.

The delivery men can be heard trying to explain that they had parked at the loading dock for only a few minutes as they had to climb the stairs to make deliveries.

They also said they had paid to go through the parking garage.

“Alamak, why do you like this ah? Right or not? Everybody now is very difficult, you know, to earn their hard-earned money,” said a delivery man.

Another delivery man also said: “We enter is not free, you know, we enter still paying the porch, you know.”

The Certis officer replied, “Three minutes is fine, I didn’t say no.”

However, the first dealer disputed this and asked why the officer had written down his license plate number.

It is unclear which of the videos was shot first.

In response to a query from Stomp, Certis said he was disappointed to learn of the incident.

A spokesperson added: “Our police officer was filmed smoking and improperly disposing of the cigarette butt on Woodlands Avenue 6.

“After our internal investigation, we spoke to the officer and sent him a warning letter. He has also been suspended from all duties.”

The incident has been reported to the relevant authorities for further action.

“Certis expects the highest standards of discipline from our officers, and they are required to fully comply with these standards and observe the law at all times,” the spokesperson said.
