SINGAPORE – Singaporeans over 18 will be able to redeem their $ 100 SingapoRediscovers coupons and check their balance online starting December 1.
Physical meters will be installed throughout the island to help those in need of assistance.
From December 1 to June of next year, eligible users can search and book local stays, attraction tickets and tours through five online booking platforms: Changi Travel Services, GlobalTix, Traveloka, Trip.com and Klook. in association with UOB Travel Planners.
Coupons can be spent on approved hotels, attractions and tours, but cannot be redeemed for cruises, retail purchases, or food and beverages.
Eligible products will be marked with the SingapoRediscovers Coupons icon, the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) said on Monday (November 23) while providing details on the redemption process.
After selecting a product, users will have the option of using the coupons, which come in $ 10 denominations, on the checkout page. They will then be redirected to a government website to verify their identity with SingPass and select the value of the coupons to use.
A coupon code will be generated, which must be entered on the payment page of the reservation website. Coupons will be redeemed once the reservation is complete.
SingPass data will not be shared with third party booking partners, STB said, urging those without a SingPass account to sign up for one by December 1.
This is the first national digital-only voucher scheme to be implemented by the government, STB CEO Keith Tan said during a virtual press conference on Monday, describing its development as a monumental undertaking.
Beginning December 1, users can check their SingapoRediscovers voucher balance and activate child / youth allowances on this website.
All eligible Singaporeans will receive a letter by then with information on the exchange process, STB said.
Those who find it difficult to use the digital coupons can visit any of the 69 physical counters set up throughout the island by the booking platforms for assistance.
Most will be located in community centers or a five-minute walk from them, STB said. Reservation counters will also be available at select shopping centers and SingPost locations.
Individuals can also call a hotline for coupon-related inquiries.
Coupons are non-transferable and resale is not allowed, STB said. He added that he has a serious view of abuses such as fraud, speculation and resale of coupons, and will monitor their use to make sure they are being used for their intended purpose.
Those who abuse the voucher scheme can lose their vouchers and may even be referred to the police, STB said.
The $ 320 million coupon scheme, announced in August, is a major boost in the national campaign to keep Singapore’s tourism sector afloat amid pandemic-related travel restrictions.
Tan said during a virtual press conference Monday that more than 200 merchants have signed up to offer trade-in products so far.
More deals will be launched until next June, he said, urging Singaporeans not to rush to use the coupons.
“We have designed the redemption process to be safe, easy and inclusive for all Singaporeans, and we hope they will take this opportunity to support tourism businesses as they rediscover what they love about Singapore.”
