Local No. 1 Movie Wins Best Makeup & Costume Design Award at 2020 Golden Horse Awards, Entertainment News

This year’s Golden Horse Award for Best Makeup and Costume Design went to Singaporean Azni Samdin and Malaysian Raymond Kuek for Singapore’s No. 1 Movie.

The award ceremony took place in Taipei tonight (November 21).

Azni was unable to go to Taipei and the award was accepted by Raymond and the film’s director, Ong Kuo Sin. This is Singapore’s first award in this category.

Singaporean comedian Mark Lee was also nominated for Best Actor for No. 1, but the honor went to Mo Tzu-yi for Dear Tenant.

Issue 1 is a touching drama in which Mark’s character Chow Chee Beng accepts a job as a manager at a drag club after being fired. Then he becomes an interpreter and realizes that he has a gift for it. The movie also sees his secret exposed to his wife and family, and how he deals with the consequences.

Another Singapore film, Precious Is The Night, was also nominated in two categories: Director Wayne Peng for Best Cinematography and Producer Lim Sau Hoong for Best Makeup and Costume Design.

Top stars of the thriller, local model and photographer Chuando Tan, Taiwanese model Nanyeli, and Taiwanese model and actress Chang Tzu-lei, walked the red carpet tonight.

Chuando plays two characters in the film: one, the 35-year-old narcissistic family doctor from a wealthy family; and the other, a writer who embarks on a quest to investigate the truth about the mysterious death of the doctor and the murder of his lover, a young family lover.

The award for Best Cinematography went to Yao Hung-i for the film Your Name Engraved Here.

Singapore-based Malaysian actress Yeo Yann Yann, who won the Best Actress award last year for her performance in Anthony Chen’s Wet Season, presented that award this time.
