Rio Ferdinand has criticized the decision to void a penalty awarded to West Bromwich Albion when the Baggies fell in a 1-0 loss to Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Slaven Bilic’s team made United work for the three points with a penalty from Bruno Fernandes retaking the difference in a game where former United player Sam Johnstone dazzled between the posts for the visitors.
But the Baggies will leave Old Trafford feeling bad that they were denied what seemed like a clear penalty spot after Fernandes dropped Conor Gallagher just after halftime.

Bruno Fernandes was at the center of the action when United beat Albion 1-0 at Old Trafford.
Referee David Coote was advised to consult the courtside monitor and review the decision he had made and determined that the decision should be reversed.
The incident was even more damaging as moments later United received their own penalty, which turned out to be the difference on Saturday night.
And Ferdinand has criticized the decision to override the penalty, insisting that the significant change had a major impact on the outcome of the game.

But the VAR recommended that the decision be reviewed and Coote overturned the call for the Baggies.
Former referee Peter Walton could not justify Coote’s decision to overturn his own decision.
“I didn’t think there was a clear and obvious mistake,” he told BT Sport.
‘I don’t think the VAR should have gotten involved. By asking the referee to approach the field side monitor, they are inferring that he made a mistake. ‘
