LOS ANGELES – With 98.4 million followers, Charli D’Amelio is the main creator of TikTok. But that number is dropping.
The 16-year-old social media star has lost more than a million followers since posting a YouTube video earlier in the week, complaining about not having 100 million followers. At that time, the dancer had 95 million followers and was progressing little by little towards the historical figure.
In the video, she is seen having dinner with her parents, her sister Dixie, and beauty influencer James Charles.
In an exchange between D’Amelio and Charles, he complained that he would not reach his goal of going from one million to 100 million followers in a year.
“Ugh. I wish I had more time,” she said, to which he replied, “Wasn’t the 95 million enough for you?”
In the same video, she and her sister Dixie were seen behaving rudely with food prepared by a private chef.
At one point, Dixie, who has 43.8 million followers on TikTok, gagged herself with a snail and vomited, while Charli was asking for dinosaur nuggets.
Their bratty behavior sparked a wave of backlash as they were called “titled,” “disrespectful” and “ungrateful” in online comments.
He subsequently posted a tearful message on Instagram Live on Thursday (November 19) about what he called a “misunderstanding.”
Wiping her tears, she said she had received death threats and hate messages, adding, “People just, like, blatantly disrespecting the fact that I’m still a human is not okay at all.
“And if this is the community I am in and the community I am in, I don’t know if I want to continue doing that.”
Yet even when former fans unfollowed her en masse, she is in no danger of losing her crown – TikTok’s second most popular personality, Addison Rae, has 69.1 million followers.
