SINGAPORE: Social worker and activist Jolovan Wham will be indicted in court on Monday (November 23) for holding protests without a permit and in a prohibited area.
Police said in a press release on Saturday that on March 28, the 40-year-old Wham allegedly staged a protest without permission near the Toa Payoh Central Community Club and the Toa Payoh Neighborhood Police Center.
Later, Wham posted a photo of himself holding a cardboard sign with a cartoon smiley face in support of climate change activists. In the Facebook post, Wham said that he “held up the banner at Toa Payoh Central, took (the) photo, and left immediately afterward.”
A second charge relates to an incident on December 13, 2018, when Wham allegedly staged a protest on December 13, 2018, on the steps of the former State Courts building, which is within a prohibited area.

Wham posted a photo the same day, showing him outside the courthouse holding a piece of paper that read: “Drop charges against Terry Xu and Daniel De Costa.”
Xu, the editor of The Online Citizen website, and Daniel De Costa, were charged that day with publishing an article alleging corruption among the highest officials of the Singapore government.
Wham faces a fine of up to S $ 5,000 for each of the two charges, which are governed by the Public Order Act.
