SINGAPORE – The Popular Action Party (PAP) announced on Thursday (November 19) that it had added four new members to its highest decision-making body.

The four additional members of the 36th Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the ruling party are Mr. Edwin Tong, Mr. Ng Chee Meng, Mr. Alex Yam and Mr. Victor Lye.

Mr. Tong is also Minister of Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister of Law. He and Mr. Yam were re-elected as deputies in the July general elections.

Mr. Ng, who is the union boss, and Mr. Lye were defeated by the Workers’ Party in their electoral contests in Sengkang GRC and Aljunied GRC respectively.

Observers expected the PAP to incorporate Mr. Ng into its CCA so that the unions would be represented on the party’s top committee.

The CEC also elected its officers.

Vice Premier Heng Swee Keat and Minister of Commerce and Industry Chan Chun Sing remain the first and second deputy general secretaries.

The Minister of National Development, Desmond Lee, and the Minister of Sustainability and Environment, Grace Fu, maintain their positions as organizational secretaries of the PAP.

Health Minister Gan Kim Yong remains as party chairman, while Internal Affairs and Law Minister K. Shanmugam is party treasurer and Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung is deputy treasurer.

The vice president of the party is the Minister of Social and Family Development Masagos Zulkifli.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong remains PAP Secretary General.
