SINGAPORE: The school sports facilities selected under the dual-use scheme will reopen for public reservations during the upcoming year-end school holidays, Sport Singapore and the Ministry of Education said in a press release on Wednesday (November 18).
Public use of the facilities was suspended in March in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19.
From November 21 to December 27, the public will be able to access 50 charged fields and 119 covered sports halls located in 135 primary and secondary schools, according to the press release.
Reservations can be made through the ActiveSG application, effective immediately.
“The intention to reopen the dual-use scheme facilities during the end-of-year school holidays is to offer more spaces for the public to exercise, while ensuring that the safety of our players, as well as students and the school staff, not engaged, ”said Mr. Sng Hock Lin, Head of ActiveSG, Sport SG.
The use of other facilities under the scheme, such as free play fields and courts outside the covered sports halls, remains suspended.
SECURE MANAGEMENT MEASURES
People using the facilities must comply with safe handling measures such as SafeEntry and temperature measurement.
Mixing and cross-play between different groups will not be allowed, and the person who reserved the facility must be present during playing time, SportSG and MOE said.
“While we want to encourage everyone to continue to lead an active lifestyle, we urge everyone to do so safely and responsibly, and to remain vigilant,” said Mr. Sng.
“The fundamental principle of resuming physical and sporting activities under strict safe management measures is to provide a safe environment for people and minimize community broadcasts,” he added.
Strong measures will be taken against individuals who fail to comply with safe management measures, including “banning them from using all ActiveSG dual use schemes and facilities,” SportSG said.

USE OF INTERIOR SPORTS ROOMS
For a game of badminton, a maximum of five people per court, including an instructor or coach, will be allowed to enter the indoor sports hall. However, only a maximum of four players will be able to play on the court at a time.
For other sports such as netball, volleyball, basketball, and floorball, a maximum of five people per court will be allowed at the same time.
FIELDS TO COLLECT
For fields with charge, a maximum of 50 people will be allowed in each field, with activities carried out in groups of five.
For the soccer game, up to two groups of five will be allowed on the field at any one time.
The groups should be kept at a distance of 3 m.

FACILITIES DAYCARE
A safe distancing ambassador and a facility guardian will be stationed at each facility to ensure safe management measures are observed, SportSG and MOE said.
“In addition to the regular cleaning routine, all contact points within the facility will be cleaned at the end of each public use day.
“The facilities will also be thoroughly cleaned before the start of the school term in January 2021,” they added.
Given the evolution of the COVID-19 situation, SportSG and MOE said they will jointly review the feasibility of extending the public use of these facilities beyond December 27 and until 2021.
