SINGAPORE – Public use of selected sports facilities under the Dual Use Plan (DUS) will resume from Saturday (November 21) for the end of the year school holidays, announced Sport Singapore (SportSG) and the Ministry of Education in a joint press release. on Wednesday.

This practice was suspended in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

As part of the November 21-December 27 window, 50 fields and 119 covered sports halls located in 135 elementary and secondary schools across the island will be available to reserve and can be done in advance through the ActiveSG app starting November 18.

Hallway prices start at $ 7.40 an hour for Singaporeans, while reserving the courses will cost $ 50.

However, DUS free playing fields and fields not within selected covered sports halls will remain closed for use.

SportSG and MOE added that they would review the feasibility of extending the public use of the DUS facilities beyond December 27.

Sng Hock Lin, Head of ActiveSG, said that the intention to reopen some facilities was to offer more spaces for the public to exercise while, at the same time, ensure that the safety of the players, as well as the students and staff of the school, don’t be compromised.

“While we want to encourage everyone to continue to lead an active lifestyle, we urge everyone to do so safely and responsibly, and to remain vigilant.”

“The fundamental principle of resuming physical and sporting activities under strict safe management measures is to provide a safe environment for people and to minimize community broadcasts.”

Some of these measures include SafeEntry and temperature taking, ensuring that different groups do not mix or play, and that the premises tenant is present during playing time.

For users of DUS badminton facilities, a maximum of only five people, including the instructor or coach, is allowed per court, with only four players allowed on each court at a time.

For other court sports such as netball, volleyball, basketball and floorball, a maximum of five people is allowed per court, while for loadable courts, a maximum of 50 people is allowed on each court, with a distance of three meters between groups of five.

A Safe Distance Ambassador and Facility Guardian will also be stationed at each facility to ensure that players observe the required measurements.

In addition to the regular cleaning routine, all contact points within the facility will be cleaned at the end of each public use day. The facilities will also be thoroughly cleaned before the start of the school year next January.

SportSG said it will crack down on individuals who fail to comply with safe management measures, including a ban on the use of all DUS and ActiveSG facilities.

Public use of the affected facilities may also be suspended as a result of such non-compliance.

In July, the national agency suspended the ActiveSG membership accounts of 29 players from a social badminton group that disobeyed safe management measures.
