Jordan Henderson withdraws from England game due to hamstring strain

Like the rest of 2020, this international getaway has felt like an endless train wreck filled with existential dread. It started with a probable knee injury that ended Joe Gomez’s season while training with England. Then Mohamed Salah attended his brother’s wedding while he was with the Egyptian team, where he managed to contract the coronavirus. It was then revealed yesterday that Andrew Robertson would be out of Scotland’s game against Slovakia after having his hamstring paralyzed during his 120 minutes against Serbia.

With so many injuries piling up, Liverpool fans waited in hopes that their talisman captain, Jordan Henderson, would make it out of England’s game against Belgium unscathed. When he was substituted at halftime without appearing to be limping, people let out a collective sigh. That didn’t last long, as England manager Gareth Southgate said Henderson was pulled in the middle with a strained hamstring.

“Jordan had a bit of tension at halftime and felt like he couldn’t go on,” said England’s top vest fan and captain of the England Men’s National Team.

“We will have to evaluate it when we return.”

Hopefully “a little tension” is all that this means, and Henderson can rest for a couple of days and be ready in a few weeks when Liverpool take on Leicester City. With Naby Keita and Thiago Alcantara getting back in shape, there should be at least midfield options along with Georginio Wijnaldum and Curtis Jones available for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in case Henderson misses playing time (likely that Fabinho and James Milner are put under pressure on duty defense because, you know, Liverpool don’t have healthy defenders).

With another round of international matches before the players return to their teams, let’s cross all available appendages so there are no more injuries.
