Melania Trump could receive up to $ 68 million in a divorce settlement if she decides to end her marriage to the president of the United States, according to a legal expert.

The two have been married for 15 years and have a son together, Barron Trump, 14. However, their marriage has been in the spotlight since President Donald Trump lost the election.

“Melania is counting every minute until he leaves office and she can get a divorce,” said former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman.

“If Melania tried to take the maximum humiliation and left while he was in office, he would find a way to punish her.”

And if the two divorce, Melania could receive a settlement of up to $ 50 million (A $ 68 million), said Jacqueline Newman, managing partner at Berkman Bottger Newman & Rodd, in an interview with Town and Country.

Speaking in 2018, he said the deal would depend largely on Barron.

“Given what I’ve read in the tabloids, there doesn’t seem to be much question about who is the primary caregiver. My guess is that she would get the primary custody rights and he would have access as long as he was in town, ”Newman said.

Newman said that in this case he would likely receive about $ 50 million.

“While it’s definitely a lot of money, in New York City, from what it used to do, it couldn’t replicate what it has now. He probably had a good idea of the lifestyle they would lead, so I imagine the payment would be quite generous. “

In Trump’s two previous marriages, the arrangements were generally made in accordance with the couples’ prenuptial agreements.

His second wife, Marla Maples (married 1993-1999), reportedly received a payment of US $ 2 million after contesting the prenup, while his first wife, Ivana Trump (married 1977-1992), He reportedly received US $ 14 million, a mansion in Connecticut, an apartment in New York and access to Mar-a-Lago once a year, after also disputing the pledge.

According to Mary Jordan, author of The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump, Melania has acted to ensure that Barron receives the same benefits as Trump’s children from their previous marriages.

Washington Post Reporter Jordan said Melania renegotiated her pledge before joining Trump in the White House after his election. At the time, she had been married to the businessman longer than any of his previous wives, who were also not expected to fulfill the duties of a First Lady.

“I wanted written proof that when it came to financial opportunities and inheritances, Barron would be treated as an equal to Trump’s three oldest children,” Jordan wrote.

However, any divorce would likely come with some kind of nondisclosure agreement as well, after Marla Maples signed a strict agreement that prohibited her from revealing any information about her marriage.
