SINGAPORE – Mambo Jambo in Las Vegas?
Paired with the Zouk Group’s nightclub and food and drink concepts, Singapore’s quintessential retro-themed disco night could be making its way to Sin City.
The group is scheduled to open a multi-concept complex at Resorts World Las Vegas in the summer of 2021.
His concepts will occupy 100,000 square feet of space in the $ 4.3 billion (S $ 5.8 billion) integrated complex, which will be the first Las Vegas Strip development built from scratch in more than a decade.
It marks the 29-year-old local entertainment and lifestyle group’s first foray into the United States, and its most ambitious venture yet.
In exclusive remarks to The Straits Times, CEO Andrew Li says: “When Genting Hong Kong acquired Zouk in 2015, the plan was always to build this lifestyle portfolio under the Genting Group, which is why this partnership with Resorts World Las Vegas is the next transition.
“There is almost 30 years of history, brand DNA and legacy with Zouk, and we can bring something special to this project that is already quite momentous.”
Several concepts tested by Zouk in Singapore and Genting Highlands, Malaysia, will be installed in Las Vegas, that is, the “best brands accumulated in the last five years”, says Mr. Li.
In addition to recreating the iconic Zouk nightclub, the group will also open the third exit of the RedTail social games bar, where guests can enjoy premium beer, wine, cocktails and shared dishes while playing games like beer pong, darts and billiards. .
Zouk Genting’s “vibrant dining” concept, Fuhu, an energetic and experienced dining venue serving contemporary Asian cuisine, will also be in Las Vegas.
The new AYU day club, on the other hand, will be an all-day outdoor venue inspired by the idyllic islands of Southeast Asia.
Zouk Singapore’s lessons from the pandemic, including converting his club space at Clarke Quay into a spinning and movie studio, will also apply to the Las Vegas complex.
“The pandemic has made us wonder what else we can do, because nightclubs during the day are massive unused spaces that have many possibilities,” Li says.
In addition to the venues within Resorts World Las Vegas, he adds that the concepts Zouk brings will complement each other and provide “these various touchpoints (for the guest to enjoy) from the beginning of the day to the end.”
And that’s the advantage Scott Sibella, president of Resorts World Las Vegas, feels they have over established players like Wynn Las Vegas, The Cosmopolitan and The Venetian on the busy Strip.
Located at the north end of the Strip, the complex, which will house two 66-story hotel towers with 3,500 rooms in total, is being built on a 35.6ha site by Genting Berhad. It will also have a 5,000-seat theater, 350,000 square feet of convention space, and a 2.2ha pool complex.
“Given its size, you never have to leave the property and that’s not something you see a lot on the Strip,” notes Sibella.
“We feel comfortable that it wasn’t done this way and we don’t have to survive on Saturday night’s earnings alone.”
He adds, “For what Zouk can bring here in terms of his Asian hospitality culture and brand, maybe we can change the way it’s programmed in Las Vegas, where venues could see everything from a band or a DJ. playing, or being used for conventions and hospitality … There will be something for everyone. “
Both Zouk Group and Resorts World Las Vegas are optimistic about opening next summer, even with the uncertainties of the pandemic, which still affects many parts of the world.
“When you look at places like China and Taiwan, where they have things under control, life goes back to normal and you see that people yearn for social interaction and entertainment,” Li says.
“After all this accumulated frustration from the pandemic, it will be a good time to open … This world-class property is brand new and ready to welcome people to Las Vegas.”
