Japanese supermarket Meidi-ya announced yesterday (November 10) that the two-story flagship store will open on Millenia Walk on November 25.
At 24,000 square feet, the two-story premium supermarket will provide guests with an authentic Japanese experience with food freshly imported from Japan. The bakery and dining room will be located on the first floor and the Japanese supermarket on the second.
There is also a wine and spirits shop inside Meidi-Ya that is now open to the public where Dassai sake imported directly from Yamaguchi is sold.
The grand opening will be on November 28 with special offers and giveaways with minimal spend.
The Millenia Walk outlet will be the second in Singapore. The first is located in Great World City.
Meidi-Ya previously operated at Liang Court for 17 years, closing its doors earlier this year in March due to the redevelopment of the mall.
Here’s a look at what to expect in the new outing on November 25.
1. Japanese cafe and bar
This outdoor Japanese cafe and bar will be located next to the food hall on the first floor. The cafe will feature an 88-seat cafe and bar concept, serving popular Japanese dishes and drinks.
2. Hokkaido Dosanko Square
Imported directly from Hokkaido to Singapore. This is where customers can find exclusive Hokkaido products such as snacks, ice cream, bento lunch boxes, and more.
Meidi-Ya has permission from the Hokkaido government to label its products with the name ‘Dosanko’ which means that the origin of the product is Hokkaido.
From November 28 to December 13, Meidi-Ya will be holding the Winter Hokkaido Fair, allowing guests to get a taste of Hokkaido even though it is currently not possible to travel to Japan.
3. Gokoku Japanese Bakery
This Kobe Japanese bakery will open its first Gokoku establishment featuring a diner cafe on Meidi-Ya Millenia Walk. The brand currently has two other Singapore outposts in Great World City and Jurong Point.
4. Food hall
Discover a variety of authentic Japanese food at the Meidi-Ya food hall. From cooked food to fresh sashimi, there is something for every fan of Japanese food. Those who love their seafood will be delighted to know that the fish is imported directly from Nakajima Suisan, Japan’s largest fish supplier.
5. Supermarket
You will be right to expect a large supply of Japanese beauty products, household products, and fresh food at the supermarket. After all, it is a brand with Japanese heritage.
However, you will also be able to find international products imported from Europe and the United States, according to Nagoshi Shuji, Managing Director of Meidi-Ya Singapore.
