SINGAPORE: The Jurong East bus interchange will be relocated from December 6 to facilitate the construction of the next Jurong Region Line and the Jurong East Integrated Transportation Center, the Land Transportation Authority (LTA) said on Wednesday (11 of November).
The new interchange will be located across the road from the current one, at Jurong Gateway Road between its junctions with Jurong East Street 12 and Jurong East Central 1. It will operate until approximately 2027, when completion of the Jurong East Integrated Transportation Hub is completed. expected.

INCLUSIVE FACILITIES
As part of the move, a new bus stop will be added in front of the Jem Mall on Jurong Gateway Road, providing passengers with an alternative stopping point closer to the MRT station.
Two existing bus stops have also been expanded along Jurong Gateway Road, outside of Block 131 and before the Jurong East MRT Station, to accommodate more commuters and buses.
Full-day bus lanes will be implemented along Jurong Gateway Road to facilitate bus operations in the area.
The relocated Jurong East Bus Interchange features a number of inclusive facilities, including boarding points with graduated curb curbs to facilitate wheelchair passenger boarding, priority waiting areas, a nurse’s lounge, and barrier-free restrooms. .
“The relocated interchange will feature several enhancements that will benefit both commuters and transit workers,” LTA said in a press release. “These include more spacious boarding points at each of the seven berths and graduated curb edges to facilitate boarding for passengers in wheelchairs.”
“There will also be more facilities to accommodate the needs of the elderly, the less mobile and families with young children, including four barrier-free disembarking areas, priority waiting areas with seating, a nurse’s room and barrier-free bathrooms.”
High-volume, low-speed fans have been installed in the interchange concourse area to improve air circulation, and there will be 64 bike racks available for cyclists.
Meanwhile, transit workers can look forward to an air-conditioned staff canteen and staff lounge at the new site.
While the new interchange is smaller than the existing one, a bus berth availability system will be used to help prevent congestion within the space.
ROUTE AMENDMENTS
Most bus services will operate as usual from the new interchange, but some services will have their routes modified to reduce travel times and congestion.
Services 97, 97E and 197 will enter the interchange at Jurong East Street 12 and Jurong Gateway Road, while Service 333 will enter the Boon Lay Way and Jurong Gateway Road.

In addition, four services will start and end their routes outside the interchange without entering it.
Service 78 will start outside of Block 131 and end at the stop before Jurong East MRT station, while service 79 can be boarded outside of Block 131 or the Jurong Regional Library.
When Cross Border Services 3 and 4 resume operations, your pickup and drop-off point will be located on Venture Avenue.
“We seek the understanding of commuters as our bus operators become familiar with the new environment,” LTA said, adding that it will monitor the situation closely and make any necessary adjustments.
