SINGAPORE: A man placed a spy pen with recording functions in the bathrooms to film his friends in the shower, but it was discovered by the boyfriend of a victim.

The 28-year-old offender, who cannot be identified to protect the identities of the victims he knew, was sentenced to 11 weeks in jail and fined Singapore $ 7,000 on Tuesday (November 10).

He entered the bathrooms before his victims and placed the devices near the sink or on a toothbrush holder, tilting them toward the shower area before activating the camera.

She targeted her friends and a tenant who was staying at her house. After the victims finished showering, he would retrieve the pen and watch the videos.

In July 2017, some of the assailant’s friends visited him at his home. One of them, a 26-year-old woman who was his friend for seven years, bathed in his toilet.

The man placed a spy pen near the sink and captured an 8-minute video of the victim showering. He saw the video and tagged it with the victim’s name.

On September 2, 2017, the offender went to a friend’s condo to use the pool with other friends. They finished swimming around 6 p.m. and some of the men in the group wanted to use the bathrooms near the pool to shower.

The offender suggested that the women go to their friend’s unit to shower. As the unit had two bathrooms, they agreed that the men would use the back bathroom while the women would use the front one.

They headed for the unit, with the offender placing a spy pen in a toothbrush holder in the toilet that women would use.

Upon leaving, he was discovered by one of his male friends, who was the boyfriend of a victim.

THE VICTIM’S BOYFRIEND SUSPECTED HIM

The victim’s boyfriend asked the assailant why he had gone to the front bathroom, but the assailant did not respond.

The boyfriend was uncomfortable remembering that the offender had been holding a black bag when he came out of the bathroom and decided to check it out.

At first he didn’t find anything suspicious, but then he saw a pen in the toothbrush holder. He tried to use it but found that he couldn’t write with it.

He took it apart and realized that it was a spy pen with a camera and an SD card.

He kept the pen and told his girlfriend the next morning. Together, they checked the SD card and watched videos of the front bathroom, the court heard.

Forensic extraction uncovered a 9-minute video of the victim stripping and showering.

The victim’s boyfriend informed the other victims and they confronted the assailant together on September 11, 2017. He denied responsibility and tried to cover up what happened by lying, but the victims and the groom found more devices in the assailant’s home and they filed a police report. .

The offender said in his police statement that he had taken the videos “for fun” even though he knew what he did was wrong.

His phone and hard drive were confiscated by the police and 14 obscene video files were found inside.

He pleaded guilty to two counts of insulting a woman’s modesty and one count of possession of obscene films, with three other counts being considered.

The judge agreed with the prosecutor that in this case there were serious aggravations, including a high degree of planning and premeditation. There was also breach of trust as the victims had met as friends when the crimes occurred.

For insulting a woman’s modesty, he could have been jailed for up to a year, fined, or both. For owning an obscene film, he could have been jailed for up to six months, fined up to Singapore $ 20,000, or both.
