As Huawei is ready to do away with Android, OnePlus is rumored to bypass a Google operating system

Rumors are circulating that OnePlus might be about to launch a Google-made operating system on an upcoming device. But Nord fans who are concerned about seeing a massive Android shakeup like their Huawei counterparts need not worry. According to the rumor, OnePlus will not change things on your Android devices, but on your next OnePlus Watch.

As reported in a 9to5Google post, OnePlus surprisingly won’t be using Google’s Wear OS platform on its next OnePlus Watch.

Wear OS is the typical choice for smartwatch manufacturers who do not have the resources to create their own operating system for their wearable devices.

The exception to this is Samsung’s Tizen operating system that runs on Samsung Galaxy Watch devices, while Huawei is designing HarmomyOS to be used on a wide range of devices, including watches and smartphones.

So the latest rumors come as a huge surprise, and it’s unclear which platform the Shenzhen-based tech giant will use on its OnePlus Watch.

The rumor comess courtesy of the trusted OnePlus Max Jambor expert who On twitter posted: “OnePlus Watch does not run Google WearOS.”

It remains to be seen which operating system the OnePlus Watch might run: is OnePlus looking to build its own bespoke platform, or could Nord makers even switch to Huawei’s HarmonyOS?

The latter would be a huge boost for Huawei and a huge blow to Google, but we’ll have to sit still and wait for official confirmation one way or another.

Rumors of a OnePlus watch have been circulating for some time now, and recently it seemed like the much-talked-about wearable might be released for the last time in 2020.

The OnePlus Watch was thought to launch in October 2020, but it was later claimed that the device had been discontinued.

This rumor came once again to Jambor, who in a Voice post said that “the OnePlus Watch announcement has been postponed without a new date.”

The insider wrote: “In 2016 the first rumors about a OnePlus Smartwach emerged. Earlier this month OnePlus itself gave a hint at the OnePlus 8T launch event that a smartwatch might be launched in the near future that could carry the name of OnePlus Watch.

“A few weeks ago, I announced that OnePlus Watch would be unveiled in October, but based on the latest information from multiple sources, there are some changes from the launch.

“According to my information, the OnePlus Watch announcement was postponed without a new date. Now I don’t know the reasons for this step, but I suppose there are some complications with software production or development.”

In other OnePlus news, November will see the launch of two new OnePlus phones, including the cheapest phone the firm has ever released.

OnePlus is expanding its OnePlus Nord line with the upcoming launch of two new devices in this range, known as the OnePlus N10 5G and the N100.

Both new Nord phones fall short of the inaugural Nord device in terms of specs and price.

The OnePlus N10 5G starts at £ 50 less than the original Nord, which costs you £ 329, and is powered by a Snapdragon 690, and has 6GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.

While the N100 is priced at just £ 179, making it the cheapest phone OnePlus has ever released.

Unsurprisingly, to help get to that price, the N100 is below spec compared to the original Nord and the upcoming N10 5G.

Both devices will be running Android 10 directly and their release dates are fast approaching.

The OnePlus N100 is the first to launch in the UK on Tuesday, November 10, and the N10 5G will arrive later in November.
