Tottenham ace Harry Kane acknowledges that he has assumed the role of King of Assists this season thanks in large part to the fact that Heung-min Son and Co have been more clinical.

Kane’s attendance record for the past five seasons reads: one, seven, two, four and two.

Yet with just seven games this season, he already has eight to his name … and six goals to measure.

Kane said: “It was a development of my game and maybe Sonny’s game as well.

“Obviously, there has been a lot of talk about going deeper this year, finding pockets and playing those passes to Sonny and other players.

“The main thing is that we have been more clinical as a team.

“Sonny has been taking advantage of almost every opportunity that has been given to him this year.

“Whoever has been playing or having opportunities has also scored.

“It’s a mix of things, but let it continue for a long time.

“I’ve always dropped deeper like a nine anyway.

“My whole youth team career I played like a 10. I’ve always had that understanding of how to get into those pockets.

“But since José Mourinho entered, he has made it clear that if I fall deep, the extremes are behind.

“Whereas maybe, at certain times over the past few years, if I go deep and Sonny does it and the other extremes do, it all gets a little too crowded.

“To have that tactical understanding that if I’m the one going deep, we need two or three runners behind, and if I’m the one going behind, the other guys need to sink.

“From that aspect, we have been working on that.

“It is the understanding that we have as players, because we have played together for a while, we have come to know a little more the game of others.”
