SINGAPORE: The leaders of Indonesia and Malaysia on Sunday (November 8) congratulated US President-elect Joe Biden on his electoral victory, as they hope to strengthen relations with the United States.

“My warmest congratulations @JoeBiden and @KamalaHarris on their historic election. The large turnout is a reflection of the hope placed on democracy,” Indonesian President Joko Widodo tweeted.

“We look forward to working closely with you to strengthen the strategic partnership between Indonesia and the United States and advance our cooperation in the economy, democracy and multilateralism for the benefit of our two peoples and beyond,” the president added.

Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin also expressed “sincere congratulations” on Biden’s “historic victory” in a press release posted on his Twitter account.

“Malaysia has followed the electoral process in the United States closely, well in advance,” said the prime minister.

“American voters have made a decisive decision to endorse Mr. Biden as the 46th President of the United States for his leadership and vision.”
