It may not always be easy to deal with your mistakes, but a truck driver’s decision to take care of a car side hit was worth it.
As it turned out, the damaged car belonged to Kiss92 radio DJ Maddy Barber, who decided to launch a month-long “trade-in project”, trading her broken rearview mirror for prizes of increasing value to reward driver Wang’s honesty. Yaowen.
Wang’s final prize? Airline tickets for his wife and two children to fly from China to Singapore to visit him, Kiss92 shared in a Facebook post yesterday (November 4).
The generous offer came from Kiss92 fan Thomas Chia, who will pay for tickets out of his own pocket.
“He misses his family so much that I thought a family visit would be good for him,” Chia told Kiss92.
Moved by Wang’s sincere apology
Barber had initially decided to absorb the cost of the broken rearview mirror and reward Wang, as she was touched by his seriousness, she told The Straits Times.
“There was so much sincerity, kindness and honesty in his voice. Mr. Wang took full responsibility for the accident and made no excuses.
“I heard he was new to Singapore and decided to let it go. I couldn’t make him pay for the repairs.”
Inspired by the One Red Paperclip project, where Canadian blogger Kyle MacDonald started with a single clip and changed his way to his final business, a house, Barber started her own swap project on October 2.
Days later, he managed to trade in his broken rearview mirror for a new, handcrafted teakwood desk set worth more than $ 450.
As the exchanges progressed, the value of potential prizes soared, from a mattress worth more than $ 1,400 to four luxury gaming chairs worth more than $ 500 each.
Barber even got in on the action herself, offering a couple of designer shades.
Kiss92’s DJ Divian Nair and executive producer Andre Hoeden also contributed to the cause, donating two designer watches and a golf driver respectively.
When the project came to a close, Chia, a catering service provider, offered to pay for the Wang family’s airfare as she felt the items exchanged wouldn’t exactly be useful to the truck driver, Kiss92 told The Straits Times. .

And there is more. The Putien restaurant chain will offer Wang and his family a free meal.
Parkroyal Collection Pickering has also offered the family a free 4D3N stay while they are here, Kiss92 said.
As for Barber, her quest to reward Wang caught the attention of BMW, who surprised her by repairing her car for free.
In a Facebook post marking the end of this whole heartwarming episode, Kiss92 shared that it was “smiles and tears all over the place” when they revealed the reward to Wang on Tuesday (November 3).
They added, “Thank you Kiss fans for making this possible! Let’s keep spreading kindness and positivity!”
