Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has criticized Anthony Martial’s performance in his shocking loss to Istanbul Basakehir.
Man Utd has had a shaky start to the new campaign. They have suffered damaging league losses to Crystal Palace, Tottenham and Arsenal.
They had performed well in Europe, having beaten PSG and RB Leipzig in their first two games. But on Wednesday night they fell by surprise to Istanbul Basakehir.
F365 says: Sorry, excuses are the only ones left for Solskjaer …
The Red Devils were two goals behind earlier in the game thanks to poor defense. Demba Ba opened the scoring before Edin Visca doubled his lead.
Martial scored a goal for United before the break, but the score was 2-1 when the referee blew the final whistle.
Man Utd will travel to face Everton in the Premier League on Saturday. Ole Gunnar Solksjaer and his players will be desperate for a win to bounce back from this disappointing midweek result.
Scholes said on BT Sport, quoted by Manchester evening news, which Martial must improve by moving forward:
“The movement from the center forward was practically non-existent. Anthony Martial, the number of times I looked up when a midfielder had the ball, he was standing between the two center-backs doing nothing.
“I’m a huge Martial fan, but the amount of times I looked up and he was walking, he has to realize as a center forward, every now and then you have to move if you’re going to score a goal.
“You can’t just walk in front of two centers without doing anything.
“When a midfielder has time with the ball, I look up, he’s walking, Rashford gets closer to the ball, it’s not his strength. Sometimes experienced players like a Matic have to tell you. They almost need training during a game. “
There are no representatives from Arsenal, Chelsea or Manchester City in our roundup of the top ten players of the season. Not Manchester United, of course, but is Jay Rodriguez coming in ?!
