Four men were arrested after a violent dispute outside a stew restaurant on Geylang Road on Monday night (November 2).

Police told Stomp they were alerted to the dispute around 10:30 p.m.

A 45-year-old man was conscious when he was taken to Singapore General Hospital. He was subsequently arrested for voluntarily causing harm with a dangerous weapon.

Three other men, ages 43 to 50, were arrested for public nuisance.

An employee at a nearby store told Lianhe Wanbao that the former head of the stew restaurant occasionally returned for dinner there, although the business had changed hands.

Xu Zunrong, 49, said: “The former boss was having a drink with friends outside the stew restaurant when he started arguing with a man in a black shirt who had been dining with him.

“Two or three guys, including the man in black, started beating the former boss.”

Xu said they beat the former boss until he fell to the ground. A woman from the same group ran towards him to protect him with her body, but was also attacked.

Then someone brandished a 10 cm fruit knife, Xu added. However, he couldn’t see who was holding the knife as the scene was too chaotic.

Police investigations are ongoing.
