SINGAPORE: Karl Liew, son of former Changi Airport Group Chairman Liew Mun Leong, will be indicted on Thursday (November 5) for providing false evidence and providing false information to a public servant, police said Wednesday.

“Following the publication of the High Court ruling and in light of the High Court’s comments, the Attorney General’s Office (AGC) ordered the police to carry out further investigations with a view to assessing whether the Liews had committed any crime,” police said it said in a statement.

“The police have completed investigations and consulted AGC on our recommendations.”

Karl Liew will be charged with two counts under sections 177 and 193 of the Penal Code, police said, following the publication of the ruling in the case of former Indonesian maid Parti Liyani.

Ms. Parti had been convicted in March last year by a state court of stealing S $ 34,000 from Mr. Liew and his family, but the conviction was overturned by the Superior Court on September 4.

At Judge Chan Seng Onn’s trial, the judge outlined various problems with the conviction findings and how the case was handled.

In particular, the High Court highlighted the evidence that Karl Liew presented and said it was unreliable.

The police statement comes shortly after the Minister of Internal Affairs and Law, K Shanmugam, said in a ministerial statement on Wednesday that Karl Liew has been investigated for possible crimes, including perjury, which refers to the presentation of evidence. false in court.

“There are many aspects of Karl’s conduct and evidence … that are very unsatisfactory, that generate skepticism, based on what he said at trial,” Shanmugam had said.

“He did not appear to be a credible witness.”
