They left some cash on fancy mattresses. But for some Robinsons clients, their search for a good night’s sleep has turned into a nightmare.

Despite making deposits or even making full payment, some customers say they have no idea when (or if) they would receive their mattresses.

Meanwhile, Robinsons appointed liquidator KordaMentha will meet with mattress suppliers to resolve the situation and “cannot provide further updates or action on deliveries, refunds or exchanges” until then, he told AsiaOne yesterday (Nov 1). .

Robinsons had confirmed last Friday that it would close its stores at The Heeren Mall and Raffles City, along with its two stores in Malaysia.

Shortly after news of the closure broke, anxious customers who had not yet received their mattresses took to Facebook to air their complaints.

The mattresses purchased last year have not yet been delivered: Customers

One of those customers, who wanted to be known only as Shao, told AsiaOne that he had paid $ 4,113 for a Sealy mattress as part of the Robinsons Black Friday sale on November 29 of last year.

However, he and his wife remain unsure if the mattress, which was scheduled to be delivered in December this year, will materialize. He added: “I would definitely love if they could still deliver the mattress. But if this is not possible we certainly want a refund.”

But the couple have received no “updates” from Robinsons or his liquidators until now.

“Consumers like us would never know or understand what the payment arrangement between Robinsons and Sealy is, as we only pay to get the bed we want. We feel desperate because no one comes to reassure us. [us]”said the 31-year-old.

Another commenter, who said they had also purchased a Sealy queen size orthopedic mattress last November, asked the company to provide an update soon, writing: “The sole purpose of purchasing a Sealy was for the quality of its mattress.

“The mattress was also supposed to help us a lot to sleep better during my confinement. We went out of our budget to buy this mattress for health reasons, so we don’t really have a lot of cash to buy another one.”

The mattress was originally scheduled to be delivered on November 7, added the woman, who is waiting and will soon be moving to a new home.

Another customer who had bought a Simmons mattress from Robinsons said, “In my opinion this is between Simmons and Robinsons and [has] nothing to do with us consumers. We trust and [made] full payment of the products. We do not delay the payment of the mattress. “

Mattress providers to meet with liquidators

Meanwhile, mattress suppliers have found themselves caught between a rock and a hard place.

Addressing customer inquiries in a statement on Facebook on Saturday (October 31), Simmons shared that he will be meeting with KordaMentha “next week” to resolve deposit and prepayment issues.

“Until we resolve the issue with Robinsons, we do not have any updates regarding deliveries, exchanges and refunds. We seek your patience and understanding,” the company said.

Sealy Singapore also announced on the same day that customers who had paid Robinsons and have yet to receive a refund should contact their bank to cancel the payment immediately.

“You can then redirect your purchase and payment to us and we will deliver your products to you in full,” the company advised.
