Sky Sports insider Jamie Redknapp admits he is not surprised by Donny Van de Beek’s lack of playing time at Manchester United after suggesting that he was not Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s main target.
Van de Beek was United’s most expensive transfer of the summer, coming from Ajax in a deal that was reportedly worth £ 40m.
However, the first weeks at Old Trafford have been difficult for the Dutchman. He may have scored on his debut, but Van de Beek has played a minor role overall.
Various experts have suggested that the 23-year-old made the wrong move by joining United this summer., given his lack of playing time.
Having a hard time evicting offensive-minded midfielders Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba from the starting lineup, Van de Beek has had to come off the bench in all four of his Premier League appearances so far.
He returned to the starting lineup for United’s 5-0 win over RB Leipzig in the Champions League.
It has given him renewed confidence in the face of his clash with Arsenal, with the player candid about his struggles so far.
However, Redknapp claims Solskjaer had loved Jack Grealish ahead of him and suggests that he only turned to Dutch once Villa’s star became unattainable.
The expert also acknowledges that Van de Beek hasn’t done enough in training either to guarantee a more regular spot.

De Boer backs Van de Beek to get it right
However, Holland coach Frank de Boer is not worried Van de beekLack of playing time.
