SINGAPORE: Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan has expressed her condolences to her counterparts in Turkey and Greece after the deadly earthquake that struck the Aegean Sea on Friday (October 30).
The earthquake shook the two countries and killed at least 30 people.
In a letter dated October 31 to Turkey’s Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Dr. Balakrishnan said that he extends his deepest condolences to the people of Turkey for the loss of life and injuries.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to those who lost loved ones during this difficult time, and we wish the injured a speedy recovery.” “I am confident that Turkey will quickly recover from this tragedy and come out stronger.”
Writing to Greece’s Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias, Dr. Balakrishnan said he was saddened to hear about the loss of life and damage caused by the earthquake.
“I offer my deepest condolences to the families of the victims and to all those whose lives have been affected.”
Dr. Balakrishnan said in his letters that Singapore is ready to offer its assistance to Turkey and Greece if necessary.

In a press release, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said it has contacted electronically registered Singaporeans in the affected areas and that there are no reports of Singaporean injuries so far.
