Genshin Impact developer MiHoYo hopes to continue adding new story content to the game for “several years.”
We spoke with several core developers (who wanted to keep their names private) in a recent interview and asked them about the studio’s long-term plans for the game.
“Genshin Impact has always been conceived as a long-term project,” explained MiHoYo. “Of the seven main cities in Teyvat, currently only the first two, Mondstadt and Liyue, are available for players to explore. The rest will be available in due course through future updates, and each city will include its own main missions. y It will likely take several years to tell the full story of Genshin Impact, with more and more playable characters becoming accessible to players as the story unfolds.
“We will also continue to make continuous improvements to the main game based on player feedback and suggestions, such as the introduction of the ability to customize controls,” the studio added.
We also asked when the third of these seven cities will launch. MiHoYo’s response was short and direct: “We do not yet have a timetable for the launch of the third city. We will share more information on that with the community as it becomes available.”
Genshin Impact Update 1.1 is scheduled for November 11, and while it won’t feature an entirely new city, it will conclude the Liyue arc and add several new playable characters, while also ensuring the The PS5 version of the game is ready for console launch..
