Eatigo reports data breach, personal data of customer accounts listed for sale online

SINGAPORE: Personal data from potentially 2.8 million eatigo accounts was illegally assessed in a data breach.

In an email to customers on Saturday (Oct 31), the restaurant reservation platform said that, along with other e-commerce sites, it was the subject of “a data security incident involving unauthorized access to our database. of customer data “.

“Our investigations indicate that the information that was illegally accessed was older than 18 months and included customer names, email addresses and phone numbers,” eatigo said.

“The password for your existing eatigo account is protected by encryption and therefore secure. We do not store credit card information in our system.”

According to a post on an online forum that allegedly sells personal data from various e-commerce sites around the world, information from 2.8 million Eatigo accounts in Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand are for sale.

The same post listed personal information from 1.1 million RedMart accounts for sale. The data breach was confirmed Friday by a Lazada spokesperson.

Eatigo said it learned of the incident on Friday and urged users to reset their passwords as a precaution.

“Your eatigo account password is encrypted and remains secure,” he said in an email to customers.

“We recognize this is disturbing news and we deeply regret any inconvenience this may cause you. We have established a dedicated support team that you can contact for assistance in this matter.”
