SINGAPORE: A woman faces charges of causing a 12-year-old boy to injure himself with a lighted incense stick and a fruit knife in June and July this year.

The 41-year-old woman, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, returned to court on Friday (October 30) for her charges under the Children and Youth Act.

She is accused of mistreating the boy, who was in her care, sometime in June this year by handing him a fruit knife and ordering him to cut himself.

The second count says that she abused the same boy around 11 a.m. on July 25, burning an incense stick and handing it to him. Then he allegedly asked her to burn herself.

Court documents did not specify their relationship.

She was charged earlier this year, but returned to court for a further mention of the case on Friday. The court heard that a medical report was not yet ready, and the investigating officer will go to the Attorney General’s Office for instructions once it is ready.

The woman, who is free on a $ 15,000 bond, will return to court next month.

If convicted of abusing a child in her care, she could be jailed for up to eight years and fined up to S $ 8,000 for each count.
