SINGAPORE – From nightclub to movie theater, local nightlife institution Zouk is launching its pop-up movie experience Zouk Cinema Club starting October 30. It is the latest twist of the Clarke Quay venue in a pandemic that has halted regular nightclub operations.

With Garrett’s popcorn, champagne, and house liquor, the main room will be transformed into a movie theater Wednesday through Saturday nights. Open from 6:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., there will be one screening session per night with two films.

His first month’s films will be on the theme For The Love Of Music, with the space decorated to mimic the cobbled streets of Montmartre, Paris, and the famous Red Mill at the Moulin Rouge cabaret. The likes of Moulin Rouge (2001), Grease (1978) and The Greatest Showman (2017) are on November’s list of musical movies.

However, in line with Halloween, this week The Sixth Sense (1999) and The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) will be screened.

Capacity is limited to 50 people and 14 tables per night. Table packages are priced at $ 75 ++ for one or two on Wednesdays, including a pitcher of house liquor or the club’s signature Long Island iced tea. For larger groups of three to five people, the experience costs $ 175 ++ and comes with three pitchers.

Thursday through Saturday table packages are more expensive, priced at $ 150 ++ (one or two people with a bottle of champagne) and $ 350 ++ (three to five people with a bottle of champagne and vodka premium).

Entry is restricted to persons over 18 years of age and those interested can register on this website.

On the move to transform the club into a cinema, Zouk Group CEO Andrew Li said: “Zouk is a pioneer in many things and we are just trying to think outside of the box to create experiences for the audience here at in line with evolving into a 360 degree lifestyle destination. “

Previously, Zouk had launched Capital Kitchen, transforming Capital Lounge into a restaurant serving Western and Asian dishes in July. The Absolute Cycle daily spinning classes also started earlier this month (October).

As with other movie theaters, registering with the TraceTogether app or the token is required. This means that guests will no longer be able to enter by scanning SafeEntry QR codes with their phone cameras, the Singpass mobile app, or the barcodes on their NRICs.

To comply with safe distancing and health and safety measures, hand sanitizer is available on the premises and the cleaning team will sanitize shared surfaces every 30 minutes.

The drinking experience will also be different. Zouk says the lids will be used for ice cubes and the lids will be used to cover glasses and champagne flutes at all times. Guests are also advised to use a single glass or flute and not share drinks.

The launch of Zouk Cinema Club comes as the closure of nightlife venues such as clubs, karaoke venues, and bars without food licenses enters its eighth consecutive month.
