Getting engaged is a joyous occasion, but the announcement by a Singaporean couple of their good news has left many people baffled.

After all, it is suspected that your newborn baby was dumped in a dumpster last year.

Having kept a low profile for many months, the couple shared the news of their engagement on October 24 on social media.

They are believed to be living together today, the man’s father told Shin Min Daily News.

The 25-year-old woman allegedly gave birth to a girl on February 26 last year while on vacation with her boyfriend in Taipei.

Hours later, a worker at a recycling company discovered the baby’s body, with the umbilical cord and placenta intact, in a food recycling bin outside a restaurant.

The same day, the couple left the hotel and returned to Singapore.

Later, Taiwanese police tracked the couple to their hotel room where the woman had given birth; the blood samples taken from the bathroom and the baby’s DNA matched.

Surveillance footage from the area also showed a man dumping a garbage bag containing the baby at 3 a.m. that day.

However, when Shin Min contacted him last year, the man denied that his girlfriend was pregnant and had given birth in Taiwan.

Police said in March that year that they were in contact with the Taiwanese authorities and would offer assistance if requested.

Investigations into the case are believed to be ongoing in Taiwan.
