SINGAPORE – Singapore and Germany residents will soon be able to travel between the two countries for commercial or official reasons, after the two countries agreed to a Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) agreement.

This is the first of these Singapore travel arrangements with a European country amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. It had previously established RGL with China, Brunei, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The foreign ministries of both countries said in a joint press release on Friday (October 23) that this travel agreement will allow essential travel for commercial or official purposes via direct flights between Germany and Singapore.

“Eligible applicants, who are residents of Germany or Singapore, must comply with the COVID-19 prevention and public health measures mutually agreed upon by both countries,” the press release said.

“Both countries agreed that the RGL could serve as a model for future similar agreements between Singapore and other European countries.”

The operational details of the RGL, including procedural requirements, health protocols, and the application process, will be announced in due course.

As of Friday, Germany had reported a total of 403,291 COVID-19 cases, with 9,954 deaths. Singapore has a total of 57,941 COVID-19 cases, with 28 deaths, as of Thursday.

In addition to the RGL travel agreement, Singapore has also established an air travel bubble with Hong Kong, whereby people will be able to travel between the two cities without the need for quarantine or restrictions on the purpose of travel, subject to conditions like the negative test for COVID-19.

It also has a periodic transportation agreement with neighboring Malaysia, which allows residents of Singapore and Malaysia who have long-term immigration passes for business and work purposes in the other country to return home to take leave after spending at least three consecutive months in your country of work. .
