No light, no doors, no privacy: Netizens aren’t impressed with ‘depressing’ and radical HDB flat design, Digital News

An unorthodox layout for a four-bedroom HDB apartment has received more disapproval than praise this week for the extreme changes made to the apartment’s layout.

The interior designers at Creatology Design Studio conceptualized a bold scheme for the apartment, so much so that it no longer looks like a typical Build to Order (BTO) apartment.

Against the grain of allowing so much sunlight into the house, this design involves some pretty radical ideas, including moving the living room into a closed space in the middle of the house.

In fact, the concept avoids bright colors and bright light, turning the floor into a dark but elegant purple, filled with shades of black and brown.

The exceptionally unconventional look, touted by Creatology as “not your typical 4-bedroom layout,” didn’t sit well with many netizens. For whatever reason, they felt strongly against the design and called it dark and depressing.

Others noted that some parts of the design seem a bit impractical for a family to live.

However, Creatology Design Studio is no stranger to radical concepts, especially considering this is the same company that came up with a genuinely industrial home aesthetic.

Nor are they the first to come up with the idea of turning the window side of the flat into a kind of hallway: Nitton Architects did the same with a Sengkang floor that is a polar opposite of Creatology’s dingy, narrow house.
