SINGAPORE – A woman who sparked a fight at Huawei’s Jurong East Mall (JEM) during its over-subscribed National Day promotion last year was jailed for two weeks and fined $ 1,000 on Thursday (October 22).
Ng Puay Chin, 54, was one of several hundred people who had lined up for the promotion of the phone retailer, which offered its Y6 Pro smartphone for sale at $ 54 from July 26-28 last year. The original price of the device was $ 198.

Ng pleaded guilty to one count of using insulting words against Lum and one count of shoving the arm of a police officer and hitting her hand while arresting her.

Ng’s attorney, Tan Hee Joek, said his client acted completely out of line and had believed that a female police officer would arrest her.
Addressing the court, Ng tearfully said: “Now that I look at the video, I am very ashamed of myself. He had no intention of hurting the police officer. “
District Judge Toh Han Li noted that Ng “continually challenged” the police despite pleas to leave the store. The exchange lasted 15 minutes and Ng even crawled under the table to thwart attempts to make her leave, DJ Toh said.
