Dealing with sundries left in their vehicles can be part of a day’s work for many Grab drivers. But a driver found himself in a small place thanks to an unusual find: a severed electronic ankle tag.

The tag, which resembles devices issued to those serving home arrest warrants (HDO), had been left under a seat in his car, Fyzal Anwerbag shared in a Facebook post on Tuesday (October 20).

Warning other private rental drivers, he wrote: “Please check your car every time your shift ends.

“Someone left this discreetly under my seat and I had to go through a mess to get it back to the police station.”

He had only come across the ankle tag on Monday (October 19) when he was searching the vehicle for his lost Shell Fuel loyalty card, Fyzal said.

“If my Shell card [was] not lost, I’d be happily driving without realizing [the tag]. “

Fyzal ended up reporting the matter at the Jurong West Neighborhood Police Center and spent more than three hours there, he said.

He’s not sure when the item was left in his car, he told Mothership, adding that the last time he drove his car was Oct. 16.

Electronic ankle tags are used to monitor the whereabouts of criminals under HDO.

Those under HDO are essentially under house arrest and must respect curfews. It is forbidden to alter or remove your electronic tag on the ankle.

Offenders who violate their HDOs may be required to serve the remaining sentence in prison.
