SINGAPORE – Twelve new coronavirus cases have been confirmed as of Wednesday noon (Oct 21), bringing Singapore’s total to 57,933.

All were imported cases that had been included in stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore.

There were no community cases.

More details will be announced Wednesday night.

On Tuesday, the Health Ministry reported six new cases of coronavirus.

They included two of the workers’ bedrooms and four imported cases.

Imported cases were included in stay-at-home notices upon arrival in Singapore. All were asymptomatic and on Monday they were confirmed to have the virus.

They included a Singaporean citizen, a permanent resident, and two work pass holders.

The Singaporean is a 35-year-old man who returned from Indonesia, while the permanent resident is a 41-year-old woman who returned from India.

One of the holders of the work pass is a 43-year-old Egyptian national who returned from the United Arab Emirates.

The other holder of the work pass, a 37-year-old German citizen, returned from Germany.

No new community cases were announced Tuesday.

Migrant workers staying in dormitories made up the two remaining new coronavirus patients.

One of the two migrant workers was identified as a contact from previous cases and had already been quarantined. It was tested while in quarantine, the ministry said.

The other case was detected through routine tests that the ministry carried out on workers who stayed in dormitories every fortnight.

The number of new cases in the community has risen from two cases in the previous week to four in the last week, the ministry added.

The number of unrelated cases in the community has increased from no case in the previous week to two cases in the last week.

In all, 57,804 patients have fully recovered from the disease.

A total of 38 patients remained in the hospital while 36 recovered in community facilities. None were in intensive care.

Singapore has had 28 deaths from Covid-19 complications, while 15 who tested positive have died from other causes.

Globally, the virus outbreak, which began in December last year, has infected more than 40.36 million people. More than 1.12 million people have died.
