SINGAPORE: The Workers’ Party (WP) said on Wednesday (October 21) that it had tabled a full motion in Parliament to discuss issues related to the Parti Liyani case.
Ms. Parti worked for the former chairman of the Changi Airport Group, Liew Mun Leong, and was acquitted last month of robbing the Liew family.
“The motion refers to the issues raised by the Parti Liyani case, such as access to justice for all,” the opposition party said in a Facebook post.

The motion was tabled by Aljunied WP Chairperson and Member of Parliament (MP) Sylvia Lim, and seconded by Sengkang MP He Ting Ru.
In the Facebook post, WP said the motion reads: “That this House affirms that fairness, access and independence are cornerstones of Singapore’s justice system, and calls on the government to recognize and correct its deficiencies to improve the justice for all, regardless of means or social status, including facilitating a review of the judicial system.
WP added that a full motion would allow each and every MP to join the debate on the motion in Parliament.

Earlier this month, Ms. Lim’s motion to postpone to speak on improving fairness in the criminal justice system was not selected in a random vote.
Rather than seeking more votes on the issue, WP said that “his contribution” to the debate will coincide with the ministerial statement to be made by the Minister of Home Affairs and Law, K Shanmugam, in Parliament in November.
Shanmugam has said that he will deliver a ministerial statement on Ms Parti’s case after “receiving notices of various questions that have been submitted by MPs.”
“It will be good if it is openly debated in Parliament, what happened is outlined and questions addressed,” Shanmugam said when speaking on the issue.
The minister also previously said that something had “gone wrong in the chain of events” of the case that will have to be analyzed.
The next session of Parliament is on November 2.
Parti, 46, was sentenced to more than two years in jail in March 2019 after being found guilty on four counts of stealing $ 34,000 worth of items from Liew Mun Leong’s family.
Their convictions were vacated in Superior Court after their appeal was allowed.
Last week, Ms. Parti decided to pursue her case against two prosecutors and request a disciplinary investigation against them for alleged misconduct.
