SINGAPORE – Police arrested 31 people for their alleged involvement in illegal gambling or addiction-related activities after a five-day police operation by the Central Police Division, which ended on Sunday (October 18).
Singapore Police said in a statement Tuesday that 23 men and eight women, aged 24 to 76, were caught in raids in areas such as Jalan Besar, Geylang Bahru and Chinatown.

Anyone convicted of providing illegal remote gambling services can be jailed for up to five years and / or fined between $ 20,000 and $ 200,000.
Those found playing in a common gambling house can be jailed for up to six months and / or fined up to $ 5,000.

In separate raids, seven women, ages 24 to 39, were arrested on Chay Yan Street, Opal Crescent and Beach Road for alleged involvement in vice-related activities.
They were believed to have advertised their sexual services online and carried out vice activities in private apartments and residential units of HDB.
Property owners who allowed their facilities to be used for vice-related activities can be jailed for up to three years and / or fined up to $ 3,000. Repeat offenders can be jailed for up to five years and / or fined up to $ 10,000.
Anyone convicted of acting as an agent or pimp for vice-related activities can be jailed for up to five years and fined up to $ 10,000.
In the statement, the police said they will continue to “repress” criminal activities and warned: “Those found to be participating in such activities will be treated severely in accordance with the law.”
