Three key Manchester United stars will be absent for Tuesday night’s Champions League opener against PSG.

the Red Devils will travel to Paris for the Group H clash, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed that Bruno fernandes will be the team captain in the absence of Harry maguire.

Maguire, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood will be lost to the French champions, where Fernandes will lead an exhausted team.

Having responded to the embarrassing home loss to Tottenham with winning 4-1 at Newcastle on Saturday, the Norwegian will not have several key players in the French capital.

When asked to confirm that Maguire, Cavani and Greenwood would be absent on Tuesday, Solskjaer said: “Yeah, and we’ve lost a couple, so that (Eric) Bailly didn’t travel or (Jesse) Lingard didn’t travel.

“We are a bit exhausted but we have more than enough players.

“We hope that the players are not out for a long time. Edinson needs a few more days of training before we can think about the weekend.

“Hopefully Harry, Eric, and Mason too, but we’re not sure about that.”

Solskjaer confirmed that Fernandes, so impressive since his January arrival from Sporting Lisbon, would wear the captain’s armband in Paris.

“We hope Harry is in shape for the weekend,” he added. “We’re not sure, but we hope so and the captain sits next to me. Bruno will be the team captain tomorrow.”

Herrera is still a big United fan

PSG will have two former United players, Ángel Di María and Ander Herrera in its line-up.

The latter was a popular figure at Old Trafford and, having left the club last year, he believes his old club is on the right track.

“Manchester United is the biggest club in the UK, it’s the club that I’m a fan of in the UK, but we have to be fair to the situation,” Herrera said.

“All the other teams have improved a lot. We now have more competitors for titles than before. What Sir Alex Ferguson did for the club is difficult to compare with all the other coaches or even all the other clubs.

“I think Manchester United should not forget, because the memories are great and all the fans have it in their mind, but it is a new situation, it is a new era, it is a new Premier League, it is a new football.

“They are progressing, I think. They have signed the right players, in my opinion, and I don’t think they are backing down. I think they are moving forward. “
